Can any race/ethnicity become jewish?Can you tell me about the jewish religion?

Meaning If you go into the jewish religion do you become jewish,are you treated like you're jewish? how can you get into the jewish religion?my friend who is black and i who am sicilian want to practice the jewish faith.She's read alot on judaism and agrees with alot of their beliefs she is currently methodist and i am catholic.Can anyone help me tell me more about the jewish faith a few of my friends said jews hate non jews trying to join in their religion and won't deal with a sicilian and a black girl that you have to be born jewish to practice the faith and we'll be misfits cause sicilians aren't jewish and neither are blacks and we should stick with our religions.
